The North Weald & District Miniature Railway (NWDMR) is a 7 1/4 gauge railway line.
The Railway is located at the Harlow Garden Centre on junction 7 of the M11 motorway. Construction of the line began in May 2019 and the first public trains ran in September 2019, round a small bit of the line. The main line was completed in 2020 and is being extended in 2022.
We operate a mixture of locomotives, steam, Diesel Electric and petrol, With a vast range of rolling stock. The railway is circuit is currently around 1/2 a mile and is currently being extended to go another 1/2 mile east towards the M11. This will bring the total journey time to around 10 – 15 minutes, through lovely gardens and scenery.
The Route of the Railway is a single 2/4 mile loop around the gardens with a terminus station, in the main car park. The line is steeply graded and the locomotives have to work hard to get their trains round the track.
The line also has a return triangle which enables trains to make several loops of the track before returning to the station. But passenger services will do 2 loops then return which costs £2, on a normal running day.
It’s run by volunteers, which operates selected weekends throughout the year including many special events.
It’s operational more so in the summer season, which brings nicer weather. But it does run all year round, always check on the website or our Facebook page for details.
The railway is always after more volunteers to help build and operate the railway. If you are interested in being part of this new very popular miniature railway then please get in touch!
